How to Stay Safe When Banking & Shopping Online

The Internet is changing quickly. 5 or 6 years ago, many people were quite apprehensive about shopping online. In fact, back then the Internet was relatively safe. Today millions shop online daily. But the Internet has changed. It’s now a more dangerous place than it was before. Despite having good security software, consumers credit card accounts are still often compromised.

Malware, phishing and credit card fraud are now much more common. Yet it’s hard to find good advice online beyond reading the privacy policy, watching your credit card statements, and looking for third-party seals of approval. This is all good advice but what if you want to be more proactive? What can you do to dramatically reduce your risk of monetary loss and identity theft? 

Exploring those options is what this class is all about. In addition we’ll cover some basic internet security practices as a foundation discussion.
